1 Step Closer is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to breaking systemic cycles and building resilient communities one step at a time. We believe that true community transformation happens when we simultaneously anchor vulnerable families in crisis and equip the next generation with the foundational tools they need to thrive.

Through our premier initiative, The Kinship Anchor Project, we provide immediate, wrap-around support to non-parent relative caregivers—such as grandparents, aunts, and uncles—who have suddenly stepped up to raise children due to a parent's incarceration. By offering vital legal navigation, digital connection resources, and material stabilization, we ensure these fragile households remain safe, supported, and intact.

Complementing this structural family support, our Youth Empowerment Initiatives focus directly on the children, preparing them to lead successful, self-sufficient futures. We deliver targeted, trauma-informed programming centered on three core areas:

o Financial Literacy: Teaching youth the essentials of budgeting, saving, and financial independence to build long-term generational wealth.

o Conflict Resolution: Equipping young people with emotional intelligence, de-escalation strategies, and healthy communication skills to navigate life's challenges.

o Leadership Development: Cultivating confidence, critical thinking, and civic engagement to help youth discover their potential as the community leaders of tomorrow.
